This remarkable spa is located within blocks of the historic Healdsburg plaza, tucked away with a secluded entrance off Grant Street. Each of the five treatment rooms has been named for one of the graceful trees that surround the building:
These islands of serenity are light and airy in relaxing earth tone colors with views of sky, tree-tops and surrounding mountains. In addition to solo treatment rooms, there are friendship and couples suites, where treatments can be shared completely or partitioned for combining togetherness with privacy.
Health Spa Healdsburg has created a spa unique not only to Healdsburg, Sonoma County and the California Wine Country, but we believe there is no spa quite like it in the World. Creating an environment for healing is part of every element of the spa. A lovely Craftsman bungalow built in the 1920’s houses the spa’s five treatment rooms.
The uniting factor in the Craftsman house was the idea of harmony with nature on a physical and transcendental level and of relating life to the vast cosmos. Design articles describe this style of architecture as Zen-like. Only the most ecologically-friendly materials are used throughout the building whenever possible.
Instead of a day spa/salon or a hotel spa, Health Spa Healdsburg sits on a half-acre of tranquil land with a private garden. A picnic table and seating vignettes are dotted around the landscape so guests can relax with a picnic brought from one of the wonderful Healdsburg shops or simply enjoy the original garden that includes an 80-year-old heritage tulip and holly tree, deodora cypress, persimmon, apple, pear, orange, tangerine, plum and liquid amber trees.
New additions, chosen for their beauty and aromatic scents, include organic lemon trees, a rose bed, raised beds of herbs and cucumbers, lavender, hebe, creeping rosemary, nandina, and white rockrose. Many of the garden’s organic therapeutic offerings are used in the spa’s refreshments and treatments.
One of the most popular places to relax is next to the Flowform sculpture pond. This exceptional water sculpture is an art form of great beauty. It produces calming rhythms and waterfalls with a heartbeat pulse. It has been inadequately described as fascinating, peaceful, and deeply touching.
The sculpture’s inspiration: water is fundamental to life, and essential for the cycles and changes in nature, for this reason the way water is treated is of crucial importance to health, and to the well-being of the planet.
Stewardship of the beautiful land on which the spa resides is a serious commitment to a healthy environment. The flowform’s designer and two eleventh-grade students from Summerfield Waldorf School in Santa Rosa helped Permaculture Earth Artisans create its permaculture garden.
Permaculture is the harmonious integration of landscape and people in a sustainable way. This synergy of human dwellings, microclimate, annual and perennial plants, soils, and water mimics the healthy patterns found in nature.
